This winter the Artists Open Houses festival sees many familiar Open Houses returning for 2023, as well as an array of exciting new venues to explore. As the cold weather arrives the Open Houses provide a unique opportunity to buy Christmas gifts for friends and family in the warmth of artists’ homes, many offering Christmas delicacies and a glass of something mulled!

This year, artists and makers present a range of delights, including extraordinary crocheted food plates, fabulous sewn creatures, beautiful mouth-blown glass Fungi sculptures, brilliant Mexican influenced clay whistles, alongside great jewellery, ceramics, painting, photography and printmaking. For a different experience visit The Pink Door Open House for a family show, including spoken word performances. While Outside In’s exhibition Humanity, at Hove Museum, provides a platform for artists encountering significant barriers to the art world.

When buying from Open Houses you are safe in the knowledge that your money is going straight to the maker, and that you are supporting artists’ careers in the process. It’s a great way to discover new arts and crafts from Sussex makers and meet members of the local creative community. Opening times:
Most Open Houses are open weekends from 11.00-17.00, but opening times may vary from venue to venue, to so it is best to check individual brochure listings. Some venues are also open on weekdays.
