Lockdown, or how we both started making work with tin cans…
Francesca: This time, when all our worlds have shrunk, has been my inspiration for making work in sardine cans. As somebody who usually paints, on a large scale, I’ve surprised myself. There’s something about looking inward, starting with small gestures, and seeing the possibility of a different planet.
Hayley: During lockdown on my daily dog walk, the overflowing recycling boxes of tins and bottles give a glimpse of everyday lives in the isolation we are all experiencing. These intricate corona mobiles are constructed from the mundane materials found in my neighbours recycling, making something shine from the ordinary. Hanging in my front garden, I see people smile as they walk past.
