Ian Swain

Ian is passionate about reclaimed vintage tools. He believes that traditional tool-makers knew about the importance of function and balance. They also took great pride in the creation – it was literally a ‘hands on’ process using superior materials, making clear the contrast between hand-crafted and mass-produced tools. Ian believes that vintage tools have real integrity in their craftsmanship, along with durability and functionality, not forgetting the pleasing aesthetics.
Ian reconditions repairs and sharpens vintage tools. He produces custom tools in wood and metal (turning, forging, welding etc.)for gardens, workshops and woodlands.
Ian’s hands-on approach is much more than working with vintage tools; it’s a lifestyle and an ethos, with self confessed ‘Luddite leanings’!
