AOH Winter Festival Press Release
Artists Open Houses announce Winter Festival 2021 dates.
Winter Festival now open for artist registration.
Brighton and Hove’s Artists Open Houses Winter Festival 2021 is now open for registration. Artists and makers across the city can register to take part in the most exciting event of Brighton’s winter cultural calendar. Registrations for the festival are open until 30th September.
The festival dates for the 2021 Winter Festival are:
November 27 and 28
December 4 and 5
December 11 and 12
During the Winter Festival, hundreds of artists and makers across the city will be opening their houses and studio spaces to the public, offering the rare opportunity to buy direct from the artists in their own homes.
There is a hugely diverse selection of artwork, ceramics, homewares, crafts, jewellery, children’s toys, Christmas cards and foodie gifts on offer. Many of the houses also offer mince pies and mulled wine to ease you into your Christmas shopping! The Artists Open Houses Winter festival provides a fantastic opportunity to shop away from the High Street and buy unique Christmas gifts in an inspiring environment whilst supporting local artists.
The Artists Open Houses hold two festivals a year; the Winter festival, ahead of the Christmas period, and the May festival, which is now the largest event of its kind in the UK, covering Brighton, Hove, Rottingdean, the South Downs village of Ditchling and surrounding area. The festivals offer a unique snapshot into the world of the city’s artists.
Judy Stevens, Artist Open Houses Festival Director says, “Artist Open Houses connect artists and makers with an audience of art-lovers, buyers and industry professionals – and is also fun to take part in, exhibiting with your friends in your own home.”
Who can take part? Anyone living in the 01273 telephone area can take part. Registration costs can be shared by all the artists exhibiting in one venue, meaning that taking part in the festival as a venue can be affordable for everyone. If you live outside the 01273 telephone area you can still take part in AOH festivals by becoming a ‘guest artist’, exhibiting your work in someone else’s Open House.

About Artist Open Houses
Brighton and Hove Artists Open Houses, the originator of the Open House movement, date back to 1981 when an artist from the Fiveways area of Brighton, Ned Hoskins, opened his house to the public to view his work and that of a group of friends. Other artists in the area followed suit to form the Fiveways Artists Group. In a city full of creatives, the idea proved popular and soon Artists Open Houses sprung up all over the city.
The Artists Open Houses festival is now the largest event of its kind in the UK. Around 200 houses and studio spaces across the city open their doors for the main festival in May and around 60 open during the Christmas festival. Over 1,000 artists and makers share their work and homes each year.
