AOH Awards Night 2018

Last Wednesday’s AOH Awards Night, held at My Brighton, was a festival highlight. Eighteen brilliant artists and Open Houses were shortlisted for five awards generously supported by our wonderful sponsors.

Marc Tulley and Suzanne Heaven, from Gemini Print, selected and presented the Gemini Award for Painting & Printmaking and the Gemini Award for Photography.

Gill Copeland from Art and Indian Tapas collects her Photography Award from Mark.

Hannah O’Hara from DV8 Sussex collects her highly commended award.

Philippa Stanton from Jehane’s Open House and Sarah Jones from Milton House display their runner-up awards. Sadly, winner of the Gemini Painting and Printmaker Award Cecil Rice was unable to attend – but congratulations Cecil!

Sponsor Jan Burgess of SOL Design Collective presented the Best Newcomer Award to representatives of JustLife Creative Studio, who showed work by artists who have experienced homelessness.

Jan will be offering her arts and business expertise in mentoring sessions with artists and team from JustLife Creative.

Sue-Kim Lun and her team from Latest Homes and TV, visited all 14 Open Houses on the publicly selected long-list over the final festival weekend to choose the 2018 Best Open House…

… they selected Encounters in the West Hove trail!

The AOH Brochure Cover Artist Award was presented by sponsor Monica Lawrence, of Lawrence’s Art Supplies, to Hannah Forward, who exhibited in new Open House Scott Road – and will be next year’s brochure cover artist. Congratulations Hannah! These three winning artists are all from the West Hove trail: Gill Copeland, Miladys Parejo (Encounters), Hannah Forward.

Finally, huge thanks to sponsors My Brighton who generously hosted the event and provided a most beautiful and delicious array of canapes!

A big thank you to all our sponsors – and to all the many wonderful AOH artists for making this the best festival so far!
