Cushions - vintage linen, indigo handweave, with hand stitch detail, natural feather

Sandra Hauraki – Heartcraft

Sandra Hauraki is an artist in textiles, and her collection, Heartcraft, draws inspiration from the traditions of boro, sashiko, natural dye and book binding.

Sandra's creative process is organic and intuitive: she sources artisanal and vintage fabrics, paper and natural fibres, and layers old with new to create beautiful items for life and home, which bring joy to the everyday. She says:

"An affinity for the simplicity and storytelling of Japanese cultural aesthetics, a valuing and appreciation of the natural, weathered and imperfect along with a desire to tread more lightly - have always guided my making."

Every piece is one of a kind. The collection includes - cherrystone heat pillows, komebukuro and ‘origami’ knot bags, scented eye pillows, hand bound notebooks and journals, cushions and throws, oilskin sit mats and log carriers, aprons, clothing and accessories.

Each has its own story and is made for a lifetime of love, use and reuse.
