Peer behind any door at Phoenix Brighton and you’re sure to find something creative happening. Whether it’s work being made by one of our 100+ studio artists in their workshops, an exhibition on display in our ground floor gallery, or a class eagerly learning how to sculpt, paint or embroider, you’re never far away from art.

Each year, during Artist Open Houses, visitors can explore all five stories of our building, investigating the variety of studios we have here and meeting the artists who work in them. However, there are interesting things happening all year round for the curious art lover.

This month, we are delighted to be welcoming Tutton & Young to Phoenix for the first Brighton Print Fair. Running from 15th – 24th September, the event includes exhibiting printmakers, classes, talks and more.

I spoke to Jon Tutton about the event and began by asking, why printing? “It’s an accessible medium that’s affordable for a lot of people. You can buy excellent work relatively cheaply. It’s easy to get involved yourself if you’re interested. Plus, it’s fun!”

Of course, then my next question was, why Phoenix?
“We’re calling it a Print Fair, but it’s more of an exhibition with lots of associated events. That’s why we chose Phoenix as a venue. You have all those different spaces – smaller workshop rooms, as well as the larger gallery space. The infrastructure there is perfect for the variety of events we’re putting on. Plus, having so many working printmakers in the building, in their own studios… it’s the right atmosphere”.

Come experience that atmosphere for yourself at the Brighton Print Fair, here at Phoenix this September.
