2 Karen Hope Boon Art

The Old Meeting House Cottage, 2 The Twitten, Ditchling, East Sussex, BN6 8UJ

Meet Karen, a Sussex artist with a passion for capturing the ever-changing moods of the coastal landscape. Watercolour and oil paintings will be on display. Each piece is more than a depiction of the sea; it is a metaphor for life’s own ups and downs. The high tide and low tides, the incoming and outgoing of the water represents the changing landscapes of one’s own life.
They are more than a seascape; they are full of atmosphere and beauty.

All beautifully framed. Come and have a browse!

The sea can have a way of shaping our emotions, the noise, the light breeze or howling gale, the squawks of the gulls, the clashing of pebbles from the wash… it can supercharge and interrupt whatever narrative is being played out in our minds. While the sea is everchanging, our feet on the ground are not. Standing, walking on solid ground, my paintings capture a moment - attempting to ground the emotion blending the paint on textured canvas or paper. Deep indigo blues, mixed with yellow ochre creating a variety of blue and green hues which reflect the different shadows of the sea and the breaking waves. When using thicker oil paints, the paints are mixed together across the texture of the cotton canvas. For the watercolour paintings, I have used khadi cotton rag paper - made in South India. The paper brings a thick textured finish for the square watercolour paintings and I love to leave the rough edging exposed. The paintings appear floating on the mount and framed with matching spacers and a hand finis
