LittlePapa’s Christmas Open House

Welcome back to the AOH Christmas festival – how many times has LittlePapa House taken part at Christmas?
This will be the third LittlePapa Christmas Open House. Christmas is by FAR my favourite time of year, the excitement and pure joy that I get setting up the house always outweighs the hard work involved. I feel that it is such an important part of our community to bring  people together and give them the chance to support our fabulous local artists. Rather than trawl the high streets people can buy one off specially picked out and ethical gifts for loved ones.

Where does the name LittlePapa House come from?
The name LittlePapa is in honour of my late Swiss father who died 6 years ago. When I first started out, I designed children t-shirts hence the “little” Papa, but I like to think that I am a little version of him too. Its an honour to feel like  he is a big part of all of my Open Houses.

Tell us about the artists taking part in LittlePapa House
This year I have 14 artist friends joining me. I hand pick each one and I think that is reflected in the feel of the house. Many of my artists have been with me from the start and we are like one big Christmassy family. We have a wide range of gifts and stocking fillers ranging from a couple of pounds to exclusive one off  pieces. This year we are stocking dog accessories, lampshades, wall art, jewellery, clothing, hats, scarves, bags, purses, make up bags, glasses cases, mosaic art, Christmas decorations, Christmas cookies, activity books mugs, notebooks… and much, much more!

We’ve heard you also have things going on in your back garden?
This year I have decided to open Hanover’s tiniest Christmas market in my back garden. We have a chalet style shed and we will be selling German Bratwurst sausages from there as well as cake and refreshments. I have purchased a fabulous metal postbox where the children can write and post their letters to Santa, and we will be selling sweets for any bored hungry children to stock up on while you browse.

What do you most like about taking part in AOH?
A big part of LittlePapa Open House is meeting the neighbours and getting to know new people. I like to think that we a very friendly house with a relaxed atmosphere. If you haven’t tried an open house before, don’t be scared! There is never any pressure to buy, just pop in and say hi!
