Portraits, Puppets & Performance Open House

Amanda Rosenstein Davidson tells us about her extraordinary exhibition at The Regency Town House:
Portraits, Puppets & Performance is a collaboration of makers and artists who bring their exhibitions to life with performance and demonstrations. After their successful 6 month show last year at Hove Art Gallery & Museum, I approached the organisers of The Regency Town House, 13 Brunswick Sq, Hove, to run an exhibition in their dining room and create puppets shows in their parlour. The Town House has a team of enthusiastic volunteers dedicated to keeping this beautiful house true to its Regency heritage. And now we feel a big part of The Town House, exhibiting our seasonal hand crafted gifts and cards.

We have beautiful crotched jewellery by Francesca Cluney, who is also a popular life drawing model for The Drawing Circus and local artists’ groups.

And you can have you portrait sketched by me in pastels and wearing a Regency hat, whilst listening to Philip Sugg  gently playing the clavichord.
Also miniature puppet theatres and kits-to-make, created by art historian Philip Sugg, including one of Brunswick Square – created by me!

Gift cards include special ones for Chanukah.
Cushions,  paintings and Christmas decorations are by Katie Sommers.
All the puppeteers have made special items such as dog cut-outs by Joni-Rae Anderson and an alphabet poster drawn by Liza Stevens.

There is a display of woven hangings and puppets created by Imogen Di Sapia along side her new book The Selkie.
Also Rust & Stardust present one of their many stage sets  – and offer details of how to book them for your own puppet party.

Each weekend we have different puppet shows:
Firstly, Daisy Jordan’s ‘The Sorrowful Tale of Sleeping Sidney‘.
Dec 1st & 2nd Touched Theatre, led by Darren East and Beccy Smith, present ‘Home
And on Dec 8th & 9th Lisa Stevens and Joni-Rae Anderson – the newly formed Bobble Hat Theatre – have a show about Humphrey Davy called ‘ Firelight and Faeries
Tickets are on sale at the door or on Everbrite.

For those who come to The Brunswick Festival in August you might have seen Vladamir’s puppet booth. Well he is here too!
Our final show will be ‘The Regency Town Mouse‘ on Sun 9th 5pm – by Eleanor Conlon and Katie Sommers of Rust & Stardust.

Finally, enjoy our Regency basement tearoom run by chef Paul Couchman – and don’t forget to tell your confession to Madame Zaza before you leave!
Come and see us, you are in for a real treat!
