We hear about St John’s College Inklusion exhibition at the Jubilee Library

Hi Miranda – Would you like to tell us a bit about St John’s and what you do?
St. John’s College is a specialist further education college for young adults aged 19-25 who are autistic and may have other complex needs, including learning disabilities. We have been based on Walpole Road, up behind the Royal Sussex hospital (for 140 years!), but we are exhibiting at the Jubilee Library in the centre of Brighton.

Dan S – Brighton Skyline

Can you tell us about the artists who will be exhibiting in your exhibition?
Our exhibiting artists are all learners at St. John’s College where we run a social enterprise called Inklusion. It is basically a print shop where our learners do everything from designing the products, printing their designs onto a range of products, uploading images of them to the website and then overseeing the fulfilment of online orders. You can read all about our artists at our website www.inklusionprint.co.uk/about Inklusion is partly funded by the Karten Network

The photographs that we are exhibiting are part of a creative media project where learners studied landscape photography and took photographs in different locations around Sussex, including Whitehawk Hill, Queens Park and Devil’s Dyke. The work included learning how to use post-production techniques, such as Adobe Photoshop.

Louie A – Swanning Around

What are these artists most looking forward to about taking part in the AOH festival?
Unlike many specialist SEN colleges, we are based in the heart of the bustling and inclusive city that is Brighton and Hove. Being part of Artists’ Open Houses is another great opportunity for our learners to get out and about in their city, for people to see their work and make their mark!

James M – Bearly Winter

Can you tell us where we can see the work?
You can see many of the designs we are exhibiting – and more! – at www.inklusionprint.co.uk  where they are printed onto everything from mugs and greeting cards to jigsaws and t-shirts which you can order online – in time for Christmas!

Gabriel S – Christmas is…
