What you liked best about AOH
Adelaide Salon Open House
Visitors tell us what they enjoyed best about visiting Artists Open Houses:
I absolutely love the amazing variety of artists and their creations. Welcoming and friendly. Beautiful variety of homes opening their doors for the community to enjoy discussing and discovering the gifts of talented artists, in our community. Big thanks to everyone.
Cherry Tree House Open House
Enjoying Brighton and beyond through the eyes of so many creative people. It is when I love the city the most!
Almost as much as seeing the exhibits is visiting the environments and homes of the artists/curators. The variety is fascinateing. I look forward to this every year.
Getting to see people’s houses, their studios, art processes, getting totally inspired as a result, discovering new artists and often getting to actually meet those new artists and have really great chats about art!
Always love the open houses! Cultural highlight of my year!!
House of Stone Open House
Getting to speak to the artist and understanding what work goes into producing the paintings/artwork.
Art galleries all over Brighton!! Free and non snooty absolutely amazing
Supporting local artists & coming together to celebrate our wonderfully diverse, wildly talented & vibrant community. Brighton’s the best in May!
The bringing together of an artistic community
Having the opportunity to see so much different art up close and being able to speak to the artists in person is wonderful. Some of the venues are in really interesting places, which we wouldn’t otherwise get to see. Most of all I love the level of creativity and I always come away feeling very inspired

As a starting point I love visiting parts of my town that I might never have been to or needed to go to before. It is fascinating to see so many styles and types of art in our town. There is always something new to discover and there is always something affordable even for the smallest of budgets. It’s a great way to support our local artistic community.
I find it incredible to enter peoples homes that become transformed for the weekend into these beautiful exhibitions
We love the whole spirit of it all and the opportunity to explore our city in a different way.

As someone who lives alone with mild disabilities, its wonderful to spend time being able to walk around the city admiring the variety and talent on display and the wonderful artistic community that helps to make living here so very special.
The variety and diversity of the Artists Open Houses are wonderful.
The opportunity to meet the artists, speak about their inspiration and process, visit such diverse creative spaces. It’s a pleasure and a privilege and possibly my favourite thing about Brighton.
Adelaide Salon Open House
We visited from London as the idea is such a lovely simple one. We enjoyed visiting the homes and meeting the artists in some of them which enables you to talk to them and get an insight into their minds. It’s lovely to see the artwork displayed differently and in a more relaxing environment unlike a gallery.
I like being surprised, when one leaves and thinks ‘I was NOT expecting that…’
Broadening my horizons, provoking deeper thinking, having an improved well being from the experience & buying the occasional item. Talking to inspiring artists that we wouldn’t usually get a chance to engage with.

It’s a good excuse to come down from London
I enjoy Artists Open Houses because they feel far more personal and welcoming than a traditional gallery experience. Being able to step into someone’s home or studio creates a real connection between the artist, the artwork and the visitor. It feels relaxed and authentic, and you often learn the stories behind the pieces directly from the people who created them. I also love the huge variety of art on display. Every house offers something different — from paintings and ceramics to textiles, photography and sculpture — so there is always an element of surprise and discovery. The mix of established and emerging artists makes it exciting and accessible, and there is usually work available at a wide range of prices, meaning art feels open to everyone rather than just serious collectors. Another reason I enjoy Artists Open Houses is the atmosphere. They encourage people to explore different neighbourhoods, meet creative people and experience art in everyday settings. It feels community-focused, inclusive and inspiring, turning art into something social and approachable rather than formal or intimidating.
In troubled times, it was a restorative experience

I like seeing art in all of the different environments. You get a glimpse into the life of the artist, too, which somehow feels more intimate and deepens the connection with the art.
It’s an antidote to high streets, the chain shop monotony, and Amazon/Temu suffocation.
Really cool to be able to see this much art in Brighton
Seeing the art with the rare opportunity in the private setting of other people’s homes. Every place tells a story.
I love walking through a door into a new world. The feeling of discovery & surprise.
Sarah Shaw Open House
I love taking friends and visitors from out of town to see all the incredible talent that our city is so lucky to have. There is just so much to see, and so much variety – from ceramics to jewellery to painting to sculpture . The houses with the tea and cakes are a big draw too
It’s been incredible to experience art in my new community and is by far the coolest thing I’ve done since I moved to Brighton!
It’s such fun using the maps to put together a trail and spend time planning it.

Seeing the houses on every day streets revealed as hubs of creativity and community.
People, Art, Skill, Creativity and Hard Work. And dare I say it, LOVE. We need all this and more than ever in times of great change. Thanks to all of those who create our shining beacon bringing us together to appreciate each other and our common wealth that is this planet.
I feel like I’m being let into a secret little world, getting to see the work, meet and chat with the artists, and have an opportunity to bring some of it home to keep and admire. It fills me with awe.
