Artists Open Houses 2021
Winter Festival

The festival runs weekends: November 27 & 28 I December 4 & 5 I December 11 & 12

Be a part of the most exciting event of the winter cultural calendar. Whether you are just starting out on your career, returning after a break or are a professional and established artist, Artists Open Houses is a great place to exhibit and be noticed.

For more information contact [email protected]

The Artist Open Houses offer festival–goers the chance to meet the artists and to view locally made, seriously good arts and crafts. The festival is also an inclusive, community event, embracing artists of all ages, at all stages of their careers, including recent graduates and school and college students. AOH welcomes artists from all areas of the community, especially those who may otherwise be excluded from the mainstream art world and who may have experienced periods of homelessness, are in recovery, have learning disabilities or mental health issues.

Visiting Open Houses gives you the opportunity to chat to the artists and to buy work directly from them. The hugely diverse range of artwork on show includes paintings, prints, photography, sculpture, installation and performance, as well ceramics, textiles, jewellery and work in many other media.

Entry to the houses is free and many Open Houses also offer the opportunity to get involved, providing workshops and events for both adults and children. With homemade tea and cake on offer too, the Artists Open Houses are a very special weekend treat.

Who can take part in AOH?

Anyone living in the 01273 telephone area can take part in the Artists Open Houses (AOH) Festival as an Open House venue. Registration costs can be shared by all artists exhibiting in one venue, meaning that taking part in the festival can be affordable for everyone.

If you live outside the 01273 telephone area, you can still take part in AOH festivals by becoming a ‘guest artist’ exhibiting your work in someone else’s Open House. Take a look at the AOH Directory of artists who are looking for houses to show in.

“ Artists Open Houses connect artists and makers with an audience of art-lovers, buyers and industry professionals – and is also fun to take part in, exhibiting with your friends in your own home.”
Judy Stevens, Artists Open Houses Festival Director

AOH would like to thank Arts Council England and Brighton and Hove City Council for their valuable support over the last few months.

Ned Hoskins

AOH is sad to announce that Ned Hoskins, painter and founder of the Artist Open Houses, has died at the age of 81. Opening his house and his art to everyone was important to Ned. He believed art is for everybody. By removing the invisible barriers that kept people out of art galleries and inviting people into his home, Ned brought art to the people.
