Making Believe in the Mirror
Carrie Reichardt
Carrie Reichardt is a British artist known for her provocative protest art and collaborative large-scale ceramic murals around the world that deal with systemic injustice and social activism.A notable example of her mosaic style, The Treatment Rooms a.k.a. Mosaic House, is also Reichardt's home base and studio.
For this show she has reworked a series of 1980's Norman Rockwell plates and re-fired them with ceramic transfers to play around with the notion of womanhood and give them a modern twist. . Re-defining what strong women would look like if they didn't care about what others thought about them. Like a rallying call for women to get in touch with their inner banshee/witch and reject the passive patriarchal roles represented in these original plates.
