Frida piensa en Diego (Frida thinks of Diego) digitally printed Perspex with gold plated ear hooks

Iris De La Torre

Iris De La Torre designs colourful and playful graphics which she transforms into jewellery, accessories and objects inspired by Mexican Folk Arts and Crafts and the magic of 1960s graphic design.

Born in Guadalajara in Mexico, as a child she was mesmerised by the beauty, vibrant colours and ingenuity of the popular arts and crafts of her country. Iris moved to London in 2003 to study a BA in Jewellery followed by one year of the two-year Jewellery MA Degree at Central Saint Martins.

Her jewellery is mainly made of Perspex acrylic sheet; a recyclable material. Iris plans her work very well so that there is minimal waste. She assembles all her pieces by hand in her studio in Kingston Upon Thames with materials sourced, laser cut and digitally printed by suppliers in the UK.

Her aim is to produce an innovative graphic design narrative through her work and make a finished piece of jewellery design, object or illustration of which she is proud and embodies fun, hope and optimism.
