Cathy Van Hear
Cathy Van Hear is a textile artist living and working in Hove, UK. Her work uses crochet, alongside hand and machine stitching, embroidery, knitting, and natural dye techniques. Alongside her studio practice, she works as a freelance art fabricator and has created works for institutions such as Selfridges and Greenpeace. She also teaches craft workshops and courses to adults across Sussex and London.Her work explores themes of spirituality, dance, movement, cycles, spirals, and tensions in one’s personhood, reflecting her interest in self-excavation following a diagnosis of a hormonal chronic health condition she’s been living with since her teens. Recent works are meditations on the cyclical nature of pain and joy, endings and rebirth, tension and harmony, and are celebrations of the depths and spiritual nature of what it is to live in body and seek answers.
