Bethan Roberts in Conversation

My dear friends Simon Martin, director of Pallant House Gallery and Bethan Roberts Author, will be in conversation at my open house this year!
Bethan first novel The Pools won a Jerwood/Arvon Young Writers’ Award. Her second novel The Good Plain Cook was serialised on BBC Radio 4’s Book at Bedtime and was chosen as one of Time Out’s books of the year.
Bethan’s latest novel, Mother Island, is the recipient of a Jerwood Fiction Uncovered prize. Her book My Policeman, the story of a 1950s policeman, his wife, and his male lover, was chosen as 2012’s City Read for Brighton, and in 2022, it was made into a feature film starring singer/songwriter Harry Styles.
Simon Martin is Director of Pallant House Gallery in Chichester. He has curated many exhibitions and written widely on modern British and contemporary art, including books on Edward Burra, Gluck, John Minton, Eduardo Paolozzi, John Piper, Colin Self, Clare Woods and Glyn Philpot. A Trustee of the Artist Collecting Society, he also serves on the Fabric Advisory Committee of Chichester Cathedral, the Courtauld Association Committee, and the Advisory Board of Apollo Magazine.
