10 The Sussex Nightstop House

121 Freshfield Road, Brighton, BN2 0BR

Hi! This house is run and supported by volunteers from Sussex Nightstop and our artist allies! Sussex Nightstop is a community response to youth homelessness in Brighton and Hove. Our volunteer hosts and staff team have a mission to ensure that young people experiencing homelessness have a safe place to sleep—one night at a time.
Enjoy great art, ingenious makings and eat fantastic cake! Each of our artist-allies has donated to the charity’s online auction (see website). All sales from tea and cake will go towards ensuring that young people experiencing homelessness can sleep safe. Looking forward to seeing you.

The image features a rich and detailed arrangement of chrysanthemums in various stages of bloom, set against a deep black background. The flowers display a stunning range of colours, including soft peach, creamy white, deep burgundy, golden yellow, and muted lavender. Each petal is delicately layered, giving the flowers a lush, almost sculptural appearance. The chrysanthemums vary in form—some with tightly packed petals forming dense, rounded blooms, while others have long, wispy tendrils that radiate outward. The dark background creates a dramatic contrast, making the flowers appear almost luminous, highlighting their intricate textures and subtle colour gradients. The overall effect is both elegant and striking, evoking a sense of timeless beauty and nature’s quiet vibrancy.

Chrysanthemum - Limited Edition Botanical Print
Dianna Jazwinski

Acrylic and coloured pencil on canvas. This painting portrays a young man with a solemn expression, set against a bold, textured red and black background. His face is rendered in an expressive, abstract style with warm tones of gold, orange, and pink blending into cooler blues and purples. His eyes are slightly downcast, and his angular features are accentuated by strong, dark lines. He wears a dark suit jacket with lapels outlined in bright, neon-like strokes, giving the piece an electrified, contemporary feel. Underneath, he has a loosely tied blue and red necktie over a light blue shirt. His sleeves are rolled up, revealing forearms that are shaded with rough, dynamic strokes. A striking element is the large, vivid flower—possibly a hibiscus—tucked into his lapel. It is painted in bright pinks, purples, and oranges, with lush green leaves that contrast with the deep reds and blacks of the background. The overall style combines elements of expressionism and modern portraiture, with bold brushstrokes and a mix of painterly and sketch-like textures, creating a sense of emotional depth and intensity.
