My primary motivation for painting is to question my nostalgia for a past that never really existed. Using personal photographs as a starting point I edit and reduce the image to a simpler form. An attempt to reveal in the resulting painting something as vague and questioning and unreal as my memory of the event.I am currently working on a series of “anti-portraits” using snapshots of friends as source material and removing vital features in the painting process. Hoping to retain a sense of self with as few clues as possible.
I find my inspiration in books, films, music & life.
