Piano Lid Commission

Dear Open House Artists
We would love to commission an artist to create a design for our piano’s  lid:

Design brief:

The brief is very open ended – basically to come up with a design for the lid of a grand piano and then implement it. We have some ideas (see below), but nothing is set in stone.

You can get an idea of both the piano and a Graham Dean painting it sits beneath in the pictures below (there’s a bit of window reflection in the glass).

Please note the tubular piano leg to the right end of the piano. In fact the leg is only under the piano and the bit coming out of the top gives the illusion of going right the way through.

The part of the piano that we are looking to decorate (the lid) is made from wood and has been coated with a clear varnish.

I’m attaching a design that was previously produced for the piano but not implemented. A design could build on this idea or go in a completely different direction. We are open to suggestions.
It’s also possible to go into 3 dimensions and I have 3D printer for plastic (PLS and ABS) and a laser cutter (thin plywood and Acrylic) that can be used by the artist. See below for some ideas we like.

Dimensions:
Width at widest point 1470mm and at longest 1280mm
