You tell us what you enjoyed most…

Anniek Verholt Open House

We asked Open House visitors what they enjoy most about visiting Artists Open Houses. Here is some of the great feedback:

A perfect way to spend the day

Being able to enjoy our enormous creative community is something really very special, I’m in awe every year.

Everything! It’s a great day out looking at art and eating cake.

The variety and education from going to the different houses is an annual joy!

This is such a wonderful event in Brighton, confirming that there are many creative, unique artists in our city and this is one important way of supporting them.

Ravenswood Open House

So many wonderful young talented artists given a chance to showcase their fabulous work! Hosted by a lovely house with some fun workshops!! I loved potato printing!!

I’ve been visiting the Open Houses for over 30 years. I love seeing artwork up close and meeting the artists. I also love to see the spaces in which they work.

It’s the best way to spend your weekends – exploring Brighton, with friends, and buying beautiful and unique things knowing they are all made with love, and not by a machine or big company. LOVE IT!!

JML Temple Street Open House

You get to speak with artists and understand more about the meaning behind the art. Such an immersion experience.

Discovering more parts of Brighton and seeing new art!

Chatting to the artists themselves about their work and finding out more on the process – and seeing the wide collection of creative minds at work within our amazing city!

Art galleries can be very sanitary and not always the best setting for art

Rizsa at the Jewellers Workshop Open House

A chance to celebrate Brighton’s creative heart

Getting to know artists on a more personal level and appreciating the wide and diverse collection of artists right on our doorstep. What an absolute privilege.

I was  drawn to the original artwork displayed inside, which added a personal and creative touch that made the space feel truly special. The combination of architecture, art, and craftsmanship/ pottery specially created a beautiful harmony. It was great to see how much my kids enjoyed it as well.

Getting to know the city and the community through art.

Each Open House offers up an immersive dive into some very exciting

The Infinite House

Huge variety of art in domestic setting.

I love seeing the creative process up close and the behind the scenes view it gives into the artists’ lives – the tools, the mess, the magic behind the finished work. Meeting the artists and hearing their stories brings the art to life in a whole new way. Every open house feels like a window into someone’s imagination. It’s personal, inspiring, and always surprising.

The amount of creativity & talent Brighton hosts. What an amazing city to live in.

The huge range of arts – and being able to support local artists. The AOH helps give artists a voice and a place and time to showcase their works.

The Infinite House

I enjoy the sense of discovery and connection. It’s not just about the artwork, but also the stories behind them and the people who create them. It’s such a valuable part of the local culture.

Great paintings? Check. Coffee in the garden? Yes, please. Cool folks and a stunning house? Say no more. I came twice. Brought my partner the second time to buy art.

Having a nose

I love the tradition of open houses in Brighton and it makes me proud to live here, showing off what a creative community it has. Thank you to all who contribute.

Behind them twitching curtains be arty treasure!

Apart from seeing all the talented artisans, it’s lovely meeting them too! And it’s like a treasure hunt, planning and following the map walking around beautiful Brighton and Hove.

Bloomsbury Place Open House

Giving artists the opportunity to show their work with open houses is a wonderful idea. Thank you!

It is such a brilliant concept and creates opportunities for people who are trying to enter the art world and can be achieved in a fairly affordable way.

That everyone has an opportunity to exhibit their work to a large and varied audience

The opportunity of see art made by new artists from different countries and meet them.

It provides an opportunity to meet and discuss artwork with artists and to purchase affordable pieces of work. Some people are too intimidated or feel out of place at a gallery so this makes it a much more approachable and inclusive environment for all, no matter your demographic, gender, age, means etc. It is a wonderful experience.

Seeing artwork in people’s homes brings it to life compared to the sterility of a gallery.

No Hard Shoulder at The Regency Town House

The whole atmosphere is wonderful. Each house offers its own special welcome.

Walking around, visiting houses, interacting with people & artists. It’s such a pleasant and great thing to have especially in this changing world. Keep it up!

Getting to meet the artists and discuss their inspiration is always my highlight.

A chance to see the wonderful creativity and artwork that is happening across the city

Been able to get up close to the artist themselves to hear what inspires them and how they got started.

I like seeing other people’s art, and sometimes when I go home, I try to recreate something like it which is super fun!!

It is a wonderful opportunity to explore other areas of Brighton and Hove, that during the rest of the year, you might never find yourself seeing. You always meet lovely, and interesting people, and it is a complete exchange of ideas.

A wonderful unique event. Inspiring!

I love visiting the houses and talking with people about the art and feeling included in the experience. Having the cafe in the garden was nice. I sat with an artist.

Such an enjoyable thing to do on the weekend, love going to different areas and explore local art.

The art; so many new talented artists in our lovely city. After visiting 35 houses I’m so proud to have a city that cherishes talent x

Always inspiring to see the brilliant creativity in our community.

Being inspired, meeting people, seeing different areas of Brighton

Immersive experience of art!

It’s so brilliant having the opportunity to see such a vast array of talent and for free too – what an asset to the city AOH is!!

Mixture of things, discoveries and wonder at beautiful art and surroundings, good step count and possibility of cake!

Always a fascinating adventure

It is the perfect, relaxed way to enjoy and buy art and really understand the artist’s process

Being able to get up close and personal with so many locally talented artists. The range, the stories behind it all.

I love seeing the art in the artist’s own space, it feels real, personal, and way more inspiring than a gallery.

It’s free and you meet different people and move around different parts of Brighton discovering places in a fun way

JML Temple Street Open House

The surprises I get when I don’t expect it

We love May open houses, always exploring as many houses as we can. We met some very interesting, friendly people and had the opportunity to create our own cyanotype image with one of the artists

Talking to artists and the buzz around creative brighton.

There is a lovely sense of community that has built up over the years, bringing local artists and the public together in spaces that open a creative window into people’s normally private worlds.

Being inspired to make art myself

How it makes arts closer and more accessible for everyone

Its a great way to see parts of Brighton you would otherwise not visit. The quality of the work is amazing, and it makes me proud to live in a town with such creative folks.

It’s like seeing inside the mind of local creatives!

The incredible talent in Brighton. It’s fun informative and accessible.

Vibrancy, creativity, the buzz of Brighton in May and being reminded of the privilege of living in such an extraordinary community.

The Wattle Tree Open House

What I love most about visiting artists’ open houses is the chance to be supported by like minded and creative people. As well as discovering new art and feeling inspired.

The variety of work on show and the inclusive nature of the event.

Gets me out of the house and talking to people

The variety of incredible art is outstanding from what I have been able to see so far. Meeting such friendly people along the way is so positive. Thank you to all the artists that have opened their homes and studios.

You never know what you will see or who you will meet!

What a wonderful event, I love it. Thanks.
