The Pines Open House
We asked visitors to tells us which is their favourite Open House and why – here is what you told us:
So beautifully curated .. like a wonderful boutique full of special pieces of art from local artists .
A Stunning house, we’ve explored many AOH over the years and this is one of the best…a beautiful setting just of the North Laine, you walk through a beautiful garden, where you can enjoy an equally beautiful home brewed beer and then into a small cottage full of delights, upcycled, elegant silver jewellery, chic pottery and wonderful paintings of the surrounding downs. All at very reasonable prices. We were welcomed and made to feel at ease
A beautiful home and garden with the art displayed thoughtfully from 4 women artists using very different mediums. We also had the opportunity to do a Cyanotype workshop and sample delicious cakes with tea and coffee.
A beautiful immersive experience, meeting the artist Sarah was a joy, the most incredible , creative artwork
A feast for the eyes with so much amazing work of different types throughout the house and garden. Friendly, welcoming atmosphere. So much care had gone into the displays, with a touch of humour too. Loved the details in the garden
Ruth Mulvie X Saltdean Lido
A good selection of various media, beautifully curated. But most importantly it was art that folk can afford to buy with many pieces at less than £100 and pictures often at under £50. The energy was very positive plus a lovely back garden patio cafe. For a first time OH it is very impressive. Lovely to see new artists exhibiting here too.
A lovely relaxed atmosphere. Felt able to wander and look. Beautiful house and garden and spent time with lovely Lionel the cat!
A real ‘artist’s house’ – Wonderful buzz of colour and form from all Orna’s paintings on display in her own house. Beautiful cushions and blankets. Always a great welcome and comfy sofa to hang out and meet people as long as you like!
Affordable art. I could afford something as a student and feel included in the open houses this year
Amazing artwork, prints, and mixed media by Will and 2 Helens. Affordable jewellery by Cat and amazing cakes and pastries from Eclipse Foods. But most importantly, in my opinion, the house is totally wheelchair accessible, which meant my husband who is a wheelchair user could visit the house and enjoy the art. So thank you!
Amazing house, great lay out of amazing artists works the journey through the house was well planned and allowed you to absorb all the works and then arrive in the kitchen area where fatboy slim was signing coffee tins
Sarah Arnett’s house is creatively designed, an artwork in itself and left me feeling very inspired and how any surface can be used as a canvas
Amazing work from Will! Loved the short video showing how Will does his artwork which makes the pieces of work seem even more special! The cake stand was fab as was the interesting jewellery stand. Great mix of artwork and very well organised & presented in a lovely setting.
Abstract Will Open House
Amazingly curated and full of wonderful artists and events. Little Picture Palace is the highlight for me.
An uninhibited expression of creativity From the walls the art the setting the collective of artist and makers exhibiting in the space . Unapologetically fabulous and uplifting.
As a community gallery the ethos is altruistic by placing emerging artists at the heart of a supportive network. The gallery encourages and a wide range of disciplines and the theme of Time is The Real Currency invites reflection and debate about what it means to practice art.
Beautiful artwork but also an amazing space to hang out in. We sat for ages in the garden chatting to the artists and eating delicious cake. It is a complete experience.
Beautiful exhibition House was amazingly curated Truly a work of art and throwback to international Venezuelan and South American / Latin American history, but where it meets current and future cultural impressions. 10/10
Beautiful house and such a colorful and happy painting and more…you get out with a good mood and a smile
Beautiful house. Every corner decorated to create a truly spellbinding environment! Sarah and the other artists in residence are so welcoming. It’s a fantastic open house, have already visited twice!
Because a lot of the pictures were of local landmarks, the colour & vibrancy of Ruth’s work represented the sheer joy of Saltdean Lido being saved.
Hygge Open House
Can’t wait to go to this house next year. From the curated artwork to the lush garden cafe and the warm, inviting atmosphere, every element made this open house feel like home. It’s the kind of place you don’t want to leave And perfectly sums up what artist open houses is about for me and my friends
Clara’s work is fabulous, she is always my favourite house. I always leave feeling upbeat from her cheerful nature and gorgeous paintings.
Dedication from the host. I liked the room that felt like going into a Mayan temple. Finn aged 8
Dinah Dufton’s Open House was welcoming and work well presented with such quality of execution Innovative artist with integrity & depth of message, potent and relevant. Her work is consistently excellent and innovative; her new organic skull pieces are exceptional!!
Everyone spoke to me and told me about the art. Great cake too

The Garden House
Frances Doherty’s marvellous other worldly botanic ceramic scuptures have been so popular with visitors. Not only has Fran embraced the Artists Open Houses festival for 25 years, she brings her creative ability into the artistically minded community with her practical workshop courses where she teaches how to make fabulous botanical pots.
Glass casting is a difficult and time consuming technique and these artists have produced some amazing work.
Great contemporary and street artists – cool art and a fabulous house too
Great paintings? Check. Coffee in the garden? Yes, please. Cool folks and a stunning house? Say no more. I came twice. Brought my partner the second time to buy art.
Great programme of music and workshops, amazing art from young artists, well curated space, friendly vibes
Preludes Open House
Great stories from the artist and potter who greated us and explained some of the processes and inspiration behind the works we admired. Great variety of high quality artworks. We did enjoy the other 8 houses we visited too on the trail. Thank you.
Groovie Street Gang!!
Huge range of artists , from beginners to the more experienced and such a different eclectic mix of mediums and styles. So great to see 15 different artists in one room .
Hygge is beautifully curated. I was in awe of the work on display and how well each artist coordinated with each other. The colour pallet of Hyyge is exceptional and the work on offer is outstanding. I’ve visited many open houses over the years, but I was blown away by how well each artists work compliments one another’s and how uniquely it was displayed.
JML Temple Street Open House
I absolutely love going to see this Open House, as the artwork is often, very international, with some extraordinary fine work on show. It is always stimulating, and thought provoking, and beautifully curated. The hospitality is fabulous, and they always do varied, and interesting talks and demonstrations. The standard is always, on every level, extremely high.
I got to do a free workshop on cyanotypes and be with the artist and I didn’t feel rushed. Thank you for sharing your skill. I have left feeling inspired and ready to do things my self
Encounters Open House
I love the street art style so it suited me down to the ground. Was very fortunate to have visited when Catman was doing a live paint of Van Gogh. Was a real treat to watch him and have a little chat! Lovely surroundings. Superb collection of artists.
I loved the quality if the ceramics and the creative, colourful way the house was dressed out. Adam and Dan were very friendly and the whole atmosphere was lovely.
I loved the variety of art on display, all by artists with learning disabilities.
I sometimes do classes above Sarah’s studio and I have often felt slightly intimidated by these Bacon like psychological concepts but totally enjoyed seeing all her squeezed tubes which are like an artwork in themselves and this year there are also on display!! But I had a chance to talk to her and she explained some of her work and concepts especially the ones I gravitated towards today in her beautifully lit extension studio -which were somehow a feeling of of doubling or the front and back of a book. Her images embody stories and she explained how she builds and is inspired by her own images-these ones the symmetry of a squish painting worked over
Sarah Shaw Fine Set Painting
It beautifully curated a collection of young artists work and combined it with fantastic musical performances in the evenings, great vibes
It included really interesting artists, that all felt current and cultural. It felt it was a curated exhibition, rather than an open house, making it feel exclusive and timely, plus there was great advertising of other events by some of the featured artists.
Alizetti Creative Open House
Liberation arts deserves to win because it provides a vital, inclusive space that bridges health, creativity, and community. It supports people facing complex health and social challenges including those who are neurodivergent, disabled, or living with chronic conditions like hypermobility EDS HSD through creative expression, body brain understanding, peer support, and accessible activities. Their work not only reduces isolation but actively promotes wellbeing and empowerment in a way that is often overlooked by mainstream services offering life-changing support to people who are too often left behind
Love the collection of young and upcoming artists work, which were all very inspiring. The added workshops and live music events were great too!
New house, all women artists, multi generational, gave a warm welcome.
Nice community feeling, beautiful artworks, a sense of happiness spreading all around
Not just a broad selection of artists and makers represented in one place but on the day we visited, a spoken word performance set to music. Really magical!
Open and friendly atmosphere. Great conversations about art and being an artist
Miladys (Mila) at Encounters Open House
So good I went at least 3 times! Did a workshop with Hide & Brass, celebrated my birthday with a friend enjoying the artwork, tarot, jewellery, clothing, cafe and incredible home made orange and almond cake. Beautiful garden – you’ve worked SO hard bringing it all together for all of us to enjoy. Thank you Sarah, Matt and team 🩷 A haven of creative inspiration, colour, wonderful makers and people and reminded me again just why I love being in Brighton so very much. Left me feeling like anything was possible after relaxing, connecting and creating together. Just stunning.
Some amazing pottery, it looks like a wonderland with mushrooms and sea orbs galore! Lovely hosts too who are very welcoming!
Some futuristic art.
Strong women artists. Good variety. They sponsored refugee artist and a student artist. Warm welcome. Great garden cafe for charity
Such a warm welcome. A beautiful haven of peace and tranquility. Fabulous workshop, some amazing pieces of work on display. The host was so friendly and informative and gave time to everyone to discuss how they produced and designed the pieces on display.
Such an array of different type of art but all tied together with one theme Celtic Mysticism. Marrying art with nature, beautiful garden and very interesting paintings.
The Garden Open House
The Immersive artwork, the community collaboration, the extra events of poetry and storytelling and the fact that all money raised from tea and cakes was going to the Sussex homeless charity
The Studio is a beautiful space, full of wonderful glass creations. It gives the feeling of being hugged when you are in there and the garden is a lovely place to relax with a cup of tea and some home baked delights from Ruth’s wife Jan. All in all the whole experience was just wonderful.
The absolute museum like beauty of Sarah’s house and everything in it! Plus, she is a wonderful warm and welcoming host
The art collection that is beautiful and provocative. The gallery show cases local up and coming artists that I would not ordinarily get a chance to see.
The art works were stunning the way they were displayed. Really struck by the fabulous garden with all the works from The Postman
There is a lovely sense of community that has built up over the years bringing local artists and the public together in spaces that in themselves open a creative window in people’s normally private worlds.
Make it 11 Rugby Road Open House
The collections were beautifully curated and really complemented each other. It was a joy to walk through, it was full of lots of people also enjoying the art and chatting enthusiastically and wonderful to also chat to the artists on site.
The combination of different artistic mediums from a selection of very talented young artists
The house was a beautiful backdrop for a wide selection of tave and street art. The live art by Catman in the garden was incredible. The art by T Boy and The Postman stood out for its unique style The whole visit was well.orga used and super friendly with lots of opportunity to.chat to the artists themselves Just wonderful
The wide variety of art and breath of talent from local artists is amazing! And of course I shouldn’t really admit it, but it’s always interesting to see inside other people’s homes…
This art exhibition is blowing everything out of the water! So many talented artists and each room is top to floor showcasing an artist! Has the look and feel of a real art exhibition but in a home environment. Loved the Pepita coffee too!!
The colour, the people, the art, the house and of course the dog!
The Postmen – Art of Pepita X Fatboy Slim
