Two solo shows: Ryan Dawson Laight and Mackenzie Bell
See two fascinating solo exhibitions from two very different Open Houses artists…
Theatre Designer Ryan Dawson Laight at Studio 17A says:
This is the first time I have displayed work in the AOH festival. I’m hoping my house will add a new and exciting flavour to the rich blend of eclectic work already on offer.
I’m a professional theatre designer, and for the Open Houses festival 2018 I’m opening the doors to my North Laine live/work studio to display a range of costume illustrations and tiny models.
A graduate of the University of Brighton, my theatre design work has been seen in a wide range of prestigious venues both nationally and internationally. Locally these include both the Brighton Dome and Theatre Royal, and I am also a regular designer at the Chichester Festival Theatre.
I teach at the University of Chichester, The Brit School, and run workshops alongside some of the major exhibitions at the V&A in London.
The idea behind this exhibition is to give viewers an insight into the process behind theatre design. I am hoping that the work will not only attract theatre lovers, but will also present my theatre design work to a different kind of audience.

Painter Mackenzie Bell says:
Following a successful Open House last year, I’m again exhibiting in a beautiful Victorian conservatory situated in an enchanting walled garden in the heart of the Clifton/Montpelier area of central Brighton.
For this exhibition, I have produced a series of paintings based on my observations of the West Pier, around the theme of As Time Passes By, an exploration of the textures and colours of this iconic structure.
I will again be donating 10% of sales to Brighton Charity The Rainbow Fund.
Last year I was delighted to be able to donate a cheque for £150 to this deserving charity.
Open Bank Holiday weekend 26-28 May only.
