Kerry Stokes is the weave designer for Chalk Wovens which offers a range of woven products: throws, cushions, hot water bottles and lampshades. Having worked for many years as a freelance weave designer for variety of textile companies, as well as teaching at Central St. Martin’s and other colleges, Kerry along with partner, Richard, decided to set up Chalk Wovens! Inspired by local landscapes, formal gardens and architectural plant forms, the designs are created on a small hand loom in their Brighton studio and then taken to a mill in Wales. The merino lambswool fabric is skilfully woven on traditional looms and the products are made up locally by an experienced and creative team of makers. Although modern and geometric, there is something nostalgic about the use of gradations, tone and colour. This gives Chalk its distinctive look.
