Open Houses celebrating anniversaries this year!

Cecil Rice: This is my 25th year opening as part of Artists Open Houses, showing my originals and prints in my Edwardian house in Seven Dials. I’ve been painting in watercolour, dare I actually say it, for 50 years ?  I became a painter, exhibiting regularly through  art galleries in London and the Southeast. I’ve been painting in oils almost as long as in watercolour, first training at Brighton and then painting abroad regularly. My work focuses on the mysterious elements of nature, light, colour, water, with Venetian architecture as one inspiration and the coast at Brighton and Sussex Landscape being important too.  I try to reflect my excitement with light and colour through representation and some abstraction.

Open 11am -5pm this Saturday and Sunday

The Trojan House is the ‘House of Troy’, where resident artist Troy Ohlson has been opening her home and studio for 23 years. First as part of Brighton Festival, then as part of Brighton Fringe (Troy was a Founding Member of the Festival Fringe Steering Committee) and she has proudly been participating in AOH since it began. Visitors enjoy a delicious complimentary glass of the legendary Pete’s Pimms (created by her husband) whilst viewing Troy’s paintings, prints, hand crochet silver jewellery, her copper creatures and her jewel flowers. Over the years, Troy has curated a magical mix, inviting a variety of specially selected guest artists to exhibit with her. Viewing Troy’s work in her two little working studios and visiting the tiny patio garden are both firm favourite with visitors – where they delight in the huge variety of birds who pop in throughout the day for a nibble of suet pellets and a splash in the bird baths.

Open 11am – 6pm this Saturday and Sunday, and 11am – 6pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

May 2024 marks ten years since Nick opened the doors to his Oxford Street studio, so please do come along to celebrate this milestone!
