In this workshop we will use objects and materials to create Photograms using the Cyanotype process. A photogram is a photographic image made without a camera by placing objects directly onto the surface of light-sensitive material and exposing to light.
Cyanotype is an ultraviolet light sensitive printing process first discovered in 1842 by sir John Herschel. It uses a mixture of iron compounds that react when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light, and when washed in water will oxidize to create a Prussian Blue image. Because the process requires water rather than chemicals it is perfect to be carried out safely and easily at home. This workshop is weather dependent as we are reliant on UV rays from the sun to create our exposure and most of the workshop will happen outdoors. Fingers crossed we will have a sunny day!
All materials provided. At the end of the workshop you will go away with your very own Cyanotype print on Watercolour paper.
