My work is about trying to capture something of the experience of being on the Downs around Brighton. I’m inspired by their swirling, continuous lines; their surprising sense of height and depth; the textures of chalk and grass – the whole framed by sea and sky.

All my latest paintings started off as quick sketches made ‘on the spot’, directly onto the canvas. Exploring the landscape is a physical as well as an artistic ‘journey’: you have to go out there, experience it and hopefully come back with something to show for your muddy boots…
