Judy Stevens
Judy Stevens’ playfully macabre linocuts reference origin myths, ancient Greek ideas of the Chimera and introduce the mythologicalform of the Mermaid into the Brighton sea; a figure embodying both the eternal seduction and pull of the ocean and its undercurrents
of danger. The figures are re-presented here not only as species but gender-fluid creatures, reflecting the inclusive nature of the
seaside town in which she has resided for most of her adult life. In her words, “a place for those not necessarily at home elsewhere”.
