Plankton Light Sculptures at ARTIS Micropia Museum for The Amsterdam Festival of Light 2019.

Iona Scott

Iona Scott is a multimedia artist based in Brighton, UK. Scott is well known for her Plankton Light Sculptures, inspired by the Discosphaera Tubifera and other types of single-celled marine micro plants – or phytoplankton. The works aim to stimulate a closer connection with the incredible tiny lifeforms, invisible to the human eye and yet responsible for producing approximately 50% of the oxygen on our planet. Through exhibiting these sculptures alongside animations of them, she raises awareness about the importance of phytoplankton by creating a mesmerising journey from our world, through the threshold and into the submarine realm.
