Artists Open Houses and Sussex Nightstop fundraiser at Cardinal Newman – exhibition and auction

Join our charity fundraiser and help young people sleep safe

Artists Open Houses became a supporter of local youth homeless charity, Sussex Nightstop in 2023. The May Festival featured an online art auction, with 38 AOH artists kindly donating a piece of work – thank you!

For 2024, we’re adding an open house at Cardinal Newman School to our online art show. All proceeds will go towards Sussex Nightstop’s work, providing short-term accommodation and support to young people experiencing homelessness in our city. So please, would you consider supporting us by donating a piece of art to this fundraiser?

Why get involved as an artist?

  • Support a great local charity and the only service in Brighton offering same day accommodation in a safe setting to young people experiencing homelessness.
  • We will display the artwork you kindly donate both online and at Cardinal Newman School. If you prefer, of course, you can display it at your open house.
  • Sussex Nightstop will run an online catalogue of art, enabling people to view and bid for artworks in conjunction with the festival. You can view the sale site here: Affordable Art Sale | Sussex Nightstop
  • A private view at the start of AOH will bring together supporters of the charity and school, the media and artists involved, to celebrate community, kindness and resilience. A larger audience, capturing friends and family of the 2,500 pupils at Cardinal Newman will attend the Open House, along with business supporters and the AOH community.
  • Supporters can submit their online bid at any time during the festival and they’ll be notified when they’re outbid, so they can make a higher offer. So as well as open house visitors, people who weren’t able to attend AOH, or ran out of time to visit all the open houses they wanted to, can buy art conveniently and for a good cause.
  • If you are donating a high cost/value piece and would like a percentage of the sale price, please let us know and we’ll facilitate that as soon as Sussex Nightstop receives the payment. The May auction taught us that affordable art is the way to go (artworks at around £100 value or less sold faster), so we highly recommend this approach. We’re hugely grateful for all art donations.
